How to Get the Most Photos From Your Wedding Day
One of the most common questions I get from couples is:
“How many photos will we receive?”
My answer is usually the same: approximately 50 edited images per hour of coverage. But here’s the truth—it’s impossible to promise an exact number because every wedding is completely different.
In fact, I’ve photographed 12-hour weddings that delivered fewer images than some 6-hour weddings.
The difference wasn’t the amount of time.
It was everything that happened during that time.
The More You Experience, the More There Is to Photograph
Photography is all about capturing moments.
If your wedding day is full of laughter, hugs, dancing, games, reactions, and little in-between moments, your gallery naturally becomes larger because there are simply more memories unfolding.
One wedding may include dinner, speeches, first dances, and then guests head home.
Another couple might have:
A champagne tower
Lawn games during cocktail hour
A packed dance floor
A cake cutting
Private last dance
Late-night snacks
Sparkler exit
Guests laughing, hugging, and celebrating all evening
Both weddings are beautiful.
But one simply creates hundreds more candid moments to preserve.
Don’t Worry About Creating a “Pinterest Wedding”
This isn’t about adding expensive trends just to have more photos.
It’s about creating opportunities for genuine moments.
Some of my favorite images have nothing to do with elaborate décor.
They’re grandparents dancing together.
Flower girls twirling barefoot.
Your college friends singing every word to your favorite song.
Dad tearing up during a toast.
Those are the images you’ll treasure decades from now.
Ways to Maximize Your Wedding Gallery
If having a full, storytelling gallery is important to you, here are a few things to consider.
Get Ready Together (Or Nearby)
The excitement before the ceremony creates some of the sweetest moments of the day. Reading letters, popping champagne, helping each other get dressed, and spending time with your closest people all create meaningful photographs.
Leave Time in Your Timeline
One of the biggest photo killers is feeling rushed.
Build breathing room into your schedule so you can actually enjoy your day instead of racing from one event to the next.
Relaxed couples always create more authentic moments than stressed ones.
Consider a First Look
Whether it’s with each other, your dad, your bridesmaids, or even your grandparents, first looks create emotional moments that become some of the most-loved images in a gallery.
Stay Present During Portraits
Some of the best photos happen between the poses.
Talk to each other.
Laugh.
Walk hand in hand.
Whisper something funny.
Forget the camera is there.
That’s where the magic happens.
Plan a Reception People Want to Enjoy
You don’t need a huge production.
But giving your guests something to participate in creates incredible photographs.
Think about including things like:
Dancing
Anniversary dance
Bouquet or garter toss (if it’s your style)
Cake cutting
Champagne tower
Private last dance
Sparkler or glow stick exit
Photo booth
Lawn games during cocktail hour
Late-night snack station
Every activity creates new interactions, reactions, and memories.
Get on the Dance Floor
This may be my biggest piece of advice.
If the bride and groom are dancing, everyone else usually follows.
If you’re sitting at your sweetheart table all night, your guests often do the same.
Some of the happiest, most joy-filled images of the entire wedding happen once everyone lets loose on the dance floor.
At the End of the Day…
Your wedding gallery isn’t measured by how many images you receive.
It’s measured by how many memories your day created.
If your wedding is full of connection, celebration, laughter, and genuine moments, your gallery will naturally reflect that.
So don’t spend your wedding worrying about the camera.
Live the day.
Laugh loudly.
Dance with your friends.
Hug your grandparents one more time.
The best photographs aren’t created because you posed perfectly.
They’re created because you were fully present in one of the best days of your life.
And those are the moments worth remembering.
